We are so enamored with our technology packed devices these days, there doesn’t seem to be any room for promoting the value, convenience, and importance of writing with pencil on paper. That being said, we have all been in a situation when the only item we forgot to buy during an outing to the grocery store is a major one for this evenings dessert or dinner. Obviously the revelation becomes apparent on the way home or after arrival; it may come in a reminder format rendered by another member of the family. You realize now that if it wasn’t for that icing on your hands the other day, you would have added the now forgotten ingredient to your device, and you meant to do it later once you washed up you didn’t want chocolate icing all over your screen. A little chocolate on a paper shopping list simply makes it more familial. Food stains on a pencil can be easily wiped off. Any member of the family can add to the list anytime.

No password necessary. I bring my grocery list back home after shopping just in case a challenge arises as to its contents. Once you install it in your kitchen or vicinity, you’ll be surprised at the participation by all family members. It promotes handwriting, and in many cases accurate spelling. It is often also used to write down a phone number, a message or memo. No electricity needed!

Grocery list dispensers such as the one offered here, were a fixture of many homes in the 1950’s and early 1960’s. Every few years craftsmen and artists who are inspired to bring back a touch of yesterdays simpler times, nostalgia and in this case a functionality, produce hand made in the USA items in a limited quantity.

As you can imagine, the economics of making a handmade item like this does not make a good business plan. However, this year my son and I were inspired by the incredible feedback we received from family members who have received them as a gift from time to time. We have made variations on this theme for many years, always in very limited quantities because the process is very time consuming. This is a great gift for that someone who has everything. They will appreciate it forever and thank you dearly when they realize it’s functional and intrinsic value. It is a keepsake.
